  • Private Health Insurance Cover for Fertility Treatment

How does private health cover contribute?

The appropriate level of private health insurance will provide either partial or full cover of costs associated with private hospital/day surgery and anaesthetic charges for IVF-related procedures. Medicare will not pay anything towards private hospital fees.

It is important to contact your private health fund to find out whether your selected insurance level covers fertility treatment and whether you have served the relevant waiting periods.

City Fertility recommends that you ask your fund for an estimate of any excess or co-payments that may be required.

If it confirms it will cover fertility treatment costs, you may receive a rebate for the following:

    • Hospital/day surgery – bed fee and theatre charge.
    • A portion of the anaesthetist’s fee.
    • Some of the specialist’s fee.
    • Medication not included in City Fertility cycle fees (this is dependent on your extras pharmacy cover – if applicable)

Private health insurance is not required for fertility treatment options such as Ovulation Induction or Artificial Insemination.
