Dr Dean Conrad is a fertility specialist, obstetrician, and gynaecologist with a particular focus on advanced pelvic surgery to optimise and preserve fertility. He believes every patient deserves to feel comfortable, listened to, and supported throughout their journey. His philosophy is to offer flexible, personalised treatment options in a safe and caring environment, with an emphasis on restoring natural fertility wherever possible before moving to IVF.
Dean takes the time to understand each patient’s unique circumstances and goals, listening without rushing, responding with empathy, and adapting care to suit individual needs. His relaxed, approachable consultation style is designed to help patients feel at ease, ask questions openly, and leave feeling informed and confident about their next steps.
Dean completed a prestigious two-year fellowship in minimally invasive pelvic surgery with the Sydney Women’s Endosurgery Centre (SWEC) through the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery (AGES) Society. He later completed a Master of Reproductive Medicine at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). This combination of advanced surgical training and specialist reproductive medicine study gives him a unique ability to integrate precision surgery with holistic fertility care.
Dean specialises in minimally invasive, fertility-sparing surgery for advanced endometriosis, large fibroids, and pelvic adhesions. He also performs reconstructive surgery for caesarean scar defects and offers tubal reanastomosis for women wishing to restore fertility after tubal ligation. His approach combines surgical precision with personalised care, always aiming to protect long-term gynaecological health.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dean is a Training Supervisor of the Sydney Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery (SMIGS) unit and serves as faculty for the Australian Institute of Robotic Surgery (AIRS) and the International Medical Robotics Academy (IMRA). He teaches and mentors surgeons across Australia and has presented nationally and internationally on endometriosis, fibroid management, and pelvic floor reconstruction.
Q&A with
Dr Dean Conrad
Dr Conrad: “I provide a relaxed, supportive environment tailored to individual needs, from natural conception advice to IVF pathways, always emphasising patient empowerment and clear communication.”
Dr Conrad: “I specialise in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery for endometriosis, large fibroids, caesarean scar defects, and tubal reanastomosis. My goal is to maximise reproductive potential while minimising recovery time and preserving future fertility. Wherever possible, I aim to restore natural fertility through targeted surgery before moving to assisted reproductive technologies like IVF.”
Dr Conrad: “In many cases, untreated surgical problems can lower IVF success rates. By addressing these first (whether that’s removing a large fibroid or repairing a caesarean scar defect), we can improve implantation rates, reduce complications, and sometimes make IVF unnecessary.”
Dr Conrad: “Robotic-assisted surgery offers exceptional precision, vision and control, which is particularly valuable in complex fertility-sparing operations. It allows me to delicately remove disease while protecting healthy reproductive tissue, which is crucial when the goal is to preserve or restore fertility.”
Dr Conrad: “My role as Training Supervisor at the SMIGS unit, alongside faculty positions with AIRS and IMRA, fuels my passion for teaching surgeons across Australia and advancing outcomes in endometriosis and fertility-sparing surgery.”
Dr Conrad: “I provide continuity from fertility through pregnancy and beyond. I manage low and high-risk pregnancies in private and public settings, and offer early pregnancy support through to postpartum care.”
Dr Conrad: “Partnering with City & Rainbow Fertility, I offer IVF, donor conception, partner cycles, and fertility preservation, within an inclusive, respectful model.”
Dr Conrad: “I value evidence-based practice, compassion, and listening. I offer choice, invite questions, and ensure patients feel heard and informed, so they feel comfortable asking anything and confident that their care plan is tailored specifically to them.”
